Your ETR Insider

Early To Rise Insider
From The Desk of Laura Rodini Volume 1  |  Issue 19  |  June 25, 2010

Dear ETR Insider,

Here's an interesting morsel I just learned from Ian Robinson, our Natural Health Confidential editor:

Not all carbs are created equal.

"There are good carbs, and there are bad carbs," he told me. "And the difference between the good and the bad depends on how much starch they contain and how that starch affects your insulin production."

Just because something is sweet doesn't necessarily make it bad for you. A handful of raspberries is better than a bowl of brown rice... Sweet potatoes are better than white potatoes.

Here's a quick list of four bad carbs:

1. Bread

2. Pasta

3. White potatoes

4. Rice

And seven good carbs:

1. Berries

2. Pears

3. Peaches

4. Tomatoes

5. Spinach

6. Collard greens

7. Green beans

(Glad I was eating a bowl of blueberries while Ian and I had our discussion!)

In this month's issue of our Natural Health Confidential newsletter, Ian debunks three popular diet fads:

 • The Scarsdale Diet (It promotes the "low-fat" eating myth that was all the rage 50 years ago.)

 • The Sugar Buster's Diet (It emphasizes whole grains, and whole-grain bread is just as bad as white bread.)

 • The Carb Addict's Diet (This one is just plain ridiculous, but I'll leave it to Ian to tell you why.)

Instead, Ian recommends a new diet from health visionary Dr. Al Sears. With this diet, you'll find the secret to weight loss and good health - once and for all. And, believe it or not, it involves eating fats and carbs.

You can get the lowdown here by signing up for Natural Health Confidential.

Counting Down the Days to 5 Days in July

I'm almost ready for our 5 Days in July Business-Building Conference. I've checked off just about everything on my to-do list. Here's some of what I've accomplished so far:

 • Find a beautiful hotel. (The Fairmont Turnberry Resort in Miami - Done!)

 • Invite world's best online marketers to speak. (Brian Edmondson, Brian York, Sandy Franks, and Mike Ward - Done!)

 • Find the best platform for setting up a website. (WordPress, the one we use here at ETR - Done!)

 • Determine session topics. (The nuts and bolts of setting up your new website, defining your niche in the market, writing killer promotional copy, building a responsive list, affiliate marketing strategies, video marketing, and more - Done!)

 • Assemble supplemental material and send to the printer. (We'll be putting it into a handy binder for our attendees.)

 • Invite You! (Join us for our 5 Days in July Business-Building Conference. All you need to bring with you is an idea for your online business - and we'll take care of the rest.)

At the Conference, our business-building experts will practically hand you a fully functioning Internet business on a silver platter. We'll give you everything from product ideas to proven marketing techniques to a working website.

See you in just two weeks in Miami!

Billions of Dollars... Waiting for You

Liberty Street League's Matt Adams tells me there's more than $32 billion in unclaimed money... just sitting there in government coffers.

Where'd it come from? You won't believe it:

 • Money orders that weren't cashed

 • Travelers checks that weren't used

 • Forgotten bank accounts (Yes, it happens.)

 • Abandoned safety deposit boxes

 • Insurance payments that weren't collected

 • Utility deposits that weren't claimed

 • Savings bonds that weren't redeemed

 • Inheritances left unclaimed

 • Property tax refunds that weren't received or cashed

There's a chance that some of this money is owed to you. If so, Matt says you can easily access it by filing a few simple forms. And even if none of it "has your name on it," you can make money by finding the people it rightfully belongs to.

Read all the details in Matt's article, appearing in just a few days in the July issue of the Liberty Street League newsletter. Click here to learn more.

Face of Success - Rob Gramer: How a Goofy Prank Unlocked the Doors to Being His Own Boss

Rob and Michael

Rob Gramer discovered ETR back in October 2001, when he was a student at Florida State University studying mechanical engineering.

How Rob discovered ETR is pretty funny...

He decided to play a prank on his friend, Scott, by entering his e-mail address into a bunch of naughty websites. Scott got his revenge by entering Rob's e-mail address into a bunch of Agora, Inc. affiliate websites - so Rob started to get an avalanche of e-mail from a number of publications... including ETR.

Well, Rob immediately "unsubscribed" from all of them... except for ETR. "The article in that day's issue of ETR was about quitting the rat race and working for yourself... at home... doing what you want, when you want," he explained. "This appealed to me. Even though I wasn't in a career yet, I knew engineering wasn't for me."

Rob stuck it out and got his engineering degree - and kept on reading ETR... "keeping the dream of working on my own in the back of my mind," he said.

Then he got a job making technical drawings for jet engine parts.

"I hated it," he said. "I worked for a company that applied for government contracts. Talk about bureaucracy. When I started, the engines were three years behind schedule. When I left three and a half years later, they were still three years behind schedule. No progress.

"I also couldn't control my pay rate. Since I wasn't paid for results, I couldn't show my boss how valuable I was to the company and, therefore, how much more I should be paid. So instead of having a limitless ceiling on my income... I basically had to take what I could get.

"Meanwhile, I kept on reading ETR."

Some of the articles he read in ETR got him interested in copywriting. He started to develop his copywriting skills in his spare time, and was eventually able to quit his job as an engineer.

He worked for a time as a financial copywriter at one of Agora's affiliates - but his real passion was martial arts, particularly Brazilian jiu jitsu. So he used the networking skills he learned from reading ETR to transition to the jiu jitsu industry and write freelance copy for them.
In fact, Rob was even able to secure a one-year mentorship with Michael Masterson himself.

And when Michael first met Rob, Michael said, "I hear you trained jiu jitsu. I'd like to train with you."

And Rob said, "As long as you don't mind getting your ass kicked.

And Michael said, "Well, if you think it will make you happy to kick the ass of someone your father's age, that's fine. But what if I kick your ass?"

Then Rob smiled.

In fact, Rob was able to turn his passion for jiu jitsu into a full time career. "I get paid to watch instructional videos on Brazilian jiu jitsu and write about a topic I love," said Rob. "I'd do this for free, really."

Rob gets to travel a lot. He even gets to train with the world-class fighters he writes about.

In addition, Rob's been enjoying some of the other perks of the "freelance lifestyle," taking fun surfing vacations to Nicaragua, Mexico, and Hawaii. Check out the photos at his personal website robsbigadventure.com.

"ETR gave me the inspiration," he said. "Then it gave me the skills I needed to finally branch out on my own."

We're proud of you, Rob! And we can't wait to hear about the next step you decide to take in your already-impressive freelance career.

It's a Wrap!

Me, Erika, Sarah and Nicole

One more thing before I sign off this week...

We've been very busy for the last few days.

(Lights! Camera! Action!)

We've been filming a few videos to promote our upcoming Info-Marketing Bootcamp in November - and also to introduce you to some of the people you read about each week in the ETR Insider.

Jason recorded a piece in the Marriott, Sarah did one by the pool, I'm out by the ocean... and the three of us filmed the final piece at my favorite Italian place.

Then, when we were done filming, we had a great meal, family-style.

I can't wait to show you the videos. Stay tuned... and keep your feedback coming. I love hearing from you.

Until next week,

Laura Sig

Sincerely,
Laura Rodini
